Heavyweight Bikes

These bikes typically boast engine displacement greater than 800ccs. All that power comes with a price; heavyweight bikes top the scales over 400 pounds and often have lower ground clearance than other classes of dual sports. They have greater weight management capacity, and are the most comfortable way to travel 2-up. They are also favored by people who like to pack large quantities of gear.

Ride Description:

This ride is for anyone who is signed up for Sam's Prairie Ride, but wants to camp-out overnight. So we will gas up at Prairie after an awesome day of riding, but instead of going home we will head over to Atlanta for hot springs and a camp out. I plan on hitting the hot springs again the next morning and leaving camp around noon. There are two really nice hot springs close to the Idaho Power camp ground there in Atlanta. I usually pitch camp then just walk to the hot springs.

Ride Description:

This was a great ride last year except for the fact that the trains at the Golden Spike National Historic Site were not operating the weekend we arrived. So, I am posting the ride again for the second weekend in May. I am planning a different route down to Grouse Creek, UT and will either plan on camping southeast of Grouse Creek or again at Lucin depending on our time. The second night we will camp either at Snowville or 7 miles north of Snowville at the Stone Reservior / Curlew campround in the Curlew National Grassland.

Ride Description:

Please note the new date!

This is an annual event that Sam started many years ago.  It is a great opportunity to dust off the bikes, get together and have an easy paced ride.  This event is traditionally as much of a social event as it is a riding event.

For those who are familar with the Poker runs that some groups put on, this is not one of those events.  As Sam described it, poker refers to the pace of the ride.  Slow and easy, so that everyone can participate.

2016 IAMC Challenge Sites

The 2016 IAMC Challenge Sites are now all uploaded to the website, and you should have received your official 2016 Challenge bandana at the challenge kick-off BBQ yesterday (March 20, 2016).  Many thanks to Mike Hardy for organizing the BBQ and selecting this year's challenge site.

An adventure on-road

Well, like most of us, Winter has had me riding on-road for the last few months, and sometimes not at all, and I am getting itchy.  So, when I had to go to Moscow, Idaho for work on February 28th, I chose to ride instead of drive.  What's more, I rode up Highway 95.  I left late on Sunday the 28th, and had booked a little cabin at an RV resort in Grangeville for that night.  The ride to Grangeville was fairy nice, with only one slushy area in the curvy roads around Cambridge, until I got just past Riggins.  Then, as the sky darkened with both the disappearing sun an
