17APR2020 – 04 Bruneau Canyon Overlook
Riding east from site 03, the Titan Missile base (on Missile Base Road of course), BillBart, Cuprum Hermit, and I came to a “T” and turned north(ish) on Blackstone - Grasmere Rd. This is another well maintained graded dirt and gravel road which leads you across the Bruneau River and dumps you out on Hot Springs Road, which heads back south toward the Overlook.
About a half-mile after the turn, Hot Springs Rd becomes Clover Three Creek Rd – which soon turns from pavement to somewhat deep gravel. You are now on the western side of the Saylor Creek Bombing Range. We were lucky enough to see an A-10, probably out of Gowen Field, making some strafing runs on one of the targets – good times. Five miles of gravel later, there's a sign for the overlook. The road out to the overlook is well maintained graded dirt.
There is gas in Bruneau, but they are asking $3.55/gallon for non-ethanol regular (which is all they have)! Plan on riding 17 miles north on HWY 51 to the Chevron on Air Base Road, where gas was a more reasonable $2.28 for Premium.
An easy trip from the Titan Missile Base or the town of Bruneau – the views from the overlook are amazing!
