12MAY2020 - ‘Cause Four Outta Five Ain’t Bad My plan was to trailer the TransAlp down to Gooding and start a 300 mile loop to hit five sites: 02 - Little City of Rocks 22 - Bear Trap Cave 21 - Albion Normal School 23 - City of Rocks 24 - Evel Knievel Jump Site This proved to be an overly ambitious goal. I only got the first four. But, in the immortal words of Meatloaf from 1977; “don’t be sad ‘cause two outta three (or four outta five) ain’t bad.” 02 - Little City of Rocks After unloading my TransAlp at the Family Dollar store in Gooding I headed north on HWY 46. I went over the RR tracks and for some reason my GPS went wonky (yes, that’s a technical term). This hadn’t happened with my Nuvi 660 before, but I knew from other Garmin products that the first troubleshooting step was to R&R the battery. That done I booted her back up and she seemed to work – except that my planned route was missing. No biggie, I have all the 2020 Challenge Waypoints loaded as favorites. I searched for Little City of Rocks and off I went. I didn’t remember being on HWY-46 for so long, but in 10 miles or so I saw a Little City of Rocks road sign and a BLM marker describing Mule Deer migration patterns, so I’d made it. After riding down the rutted dirt road and a taking a photo with the rocks and I was headed to my next destination – #22 - Bear trap Cave. NOTE: Upon returning home I compared the Little City of Rocks that I had found with the IAMC waypoint location. The IAMC waypoint is 8.5 miles due west of the BLM location. Coordinates for the BLM location are: N43 07 08.6 W114 41 19.2. This location is also identified by Google Earth as Little City of Rocks.
